Who Else Full Times In Their Caravan?

I have just spent some time catching up with emails from folk that have written to me asking advice on full timing.

This got me wondering, actually how many of you out there in the real world are actually living the dream?

I know of a couple of you that are, but it would be great to hear from anyone who is currently living full time either in their caravans or campervans.

Since starting this blog I have received a fairly constant amount of emails asking for advice, which is great.

When we first started to look into living full time in our caravan I found very little relevant information to hand, which was one of the reasons why I started to write the blog.

So don't be shy, say hello and share your story here with us, what's worked for you, what hasn't worked, the highs and lows so far.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Till later...........

  2. Hi there, I used to live in a caravan full time when I was a kid, aged from 11 to 13. My parents ran a caravan and camping site in Devon and our accomodation was a static caravan onsite.
It was home to my family of Mum, Dad and my 2 younger sisters and I didn't have any problems at all, it was simply Home.
My 2 sisters and I went to school everyday as normal and we didn't think it was unusual. All summer long we made new friends every week as the new holiday makers came and went and we had a whale of a time.
I remember we had gas mantles for lights but I can't remember the toilet facilities, so I'm thinking maybe we had to use the site's facilities in the shower block.
Now I'm all grown up with a family of my own, I like to go out in our own caravan touring as often as money allows and in the 2 years of owning my own van, we've been on 34 different trips.
I have recently started my own caravan touring blog at http://caravantouring.blogspot.co.uk and if you are interested, I've made a blog about each of my 34 trips so far.
Someimes it's just been 1 night and sometimes 7 nights, but I love the life of caravanning and maybe it's because I spent those 2 years as a youngster when we lived in our caravan all the time, that I'm drawn to it.

  3. I just added to your 10 questions page - I am a full timer, if you want me to help answer questions people have happy to help, I agree not much information, mostly confusing and some utter rubbish out there about permanent living, I'm afraid some of it from life long holiday vaners and the 2 clubs.

  4. My husband, myself, and our two daughters are just preparing for our 12 month adventure. We recently came to UK from the USA, and from here we are headed to Norway and working our way South in our first ever caravan. So many experiences await us I can't even begin to tell you how excited we all are. Have been reading a bit of your blog, especially the early days...so looking forward to all of our mishaps and successes. Ta!

  5. Over a year now full time. Easier than people think, more fun than it seems, worth every minute.

  6. Hi There, i am 25, female and a teacher living full time in my parents 6 birth Bailey Carolina. Lovely caravan but not quite set up for everyday living.
I get married in April 2014 and due to lack of money my fiance will be joining me in the caravan while he finishes his university course.
I agree - the internet really does not give very much information on caravan living and lifestyle. Yes its cold during the winter months but thats why Gas heaters were invented. Im lucky that on my site i have electric, water and waste hook up.. the only thing i really have to do is empty the toilet or walk to the main refurbished toilet block 300m away.
Living in the caravan has allowed me to have my own space, know my space is clean and saved me a fortune on rent and bills.
I spent £20 on my gas every 2 months during the summer
and i get through £40 a month during the winter..
My rent is £400 including electric and council tax and water.

Living in the caravan is not a cool thing to do as a teacher and my friends all call me a gypsy but they will be laughing when iv managed to buy a property and still be able to buy a new wardrobe for now:)

  7. Have been living in a 4 man tent since August 1st, and am hopefully picking up a caravan, small 2 berth, to live in for the foreseeable future. Am a bit worried with winter coming on and no experience with caravans.

    1. The benefit is you are further off the ground with a more comfy bed! Without knowing age & spec of the caravan, you will hopefully have as a minimum, a 2 burner hob and grill. Probably, unless the van is really old, also a fridge, 2 or 3 way. It may have a basic bathroom with portapotti & sink. If you are lucky a cassette toilet & shower.....but collectively these need gas & 12v/ 240v hook-up to run...
The big bonus may be in the form of a gas heater in the caravan. If fitted, they heat such a small area very quickly, good for heating before bed & in the morning. I wouldn't trust it to run overnight in an older van without a 3 way detector!!
If you also have even a porch awning it will be a God send in the winter to keep the elements out and somewhere to change & dry off before going in the van. Good Luck!!
